"Packs of wolves once terrorized the remote town of Charity, Wyoming, preying upon livestock and settlers alike.  They were led by a giant wolf, a beast with eyes like burning coals; the townsfolk soon came to call the beast 'the Demon'.  By the end of the cold winter of 1917, every last citizen of Charity had either fled or been killed by the Demon and his pack, except for one - my grandfather, Art Tarnowski."
