Just the sound of his one long, dirty fingernail dragging along the wall was nearly enough to make me bolt for it.  But I fought down my fear, and made myself wait for the time to strike with the piece of heavy pipe.  But when that thing shuffled out of the bathroom, dragging Jake behind him, I dropped the pipe and took off like a bat out of hell - and left my friend to die.
