Review by Nate “RedNinja” Gleason-
Playability: 8/10 - When a figure offers little in the way of brute force, it better have some form of utility to set it aside from the mediocre. The Experienced Matron Mother is definitely a figure that does this well, and even offers a bit of physical prowess as a bonus.
What sets this figure aside from the rest is having the highly beneficial Boss ability at a low price, allowing you to greatly increase the effectiveness of your other monsters. If you've played even a few games of HorrorClix, then you know that one number can make all the difference between winning and losing. But in addition to this ability, the figure offers a surprising Defense Value of 18 alongside an impressively deep dial, making it a rather nice meat shield. To conclude, she even sports a large Attack Value alongside the Scare ability, giving her potential to kill monsters at the end of their dials with a frenzy.
If you're building an army that's rather dependant on victim consumption, you should definitely take a look at this piece. It's ability to make greater threats of your other monsters overshadows the fact that she isn't one herself.
Sculpt: 6/10 - The sculpt and paint itself are great at capturing the flavor of this piece, that I have no gripe with. But unfortunately, the flavor itself is pretty bland - there's just not a lot of ways to make a nun, by herself, look threatening. This is a sculpt that needs to speak through action, not by appearance - maybe if they'd placed a victim pleading for their life on their knees, we'd have something amazing on our hands.
At the very least, we can be happy about a rather nice sculpture here - the paintjob is great, and the sculpt captures the flavor perfectly.
