"Why can't the doc get his own blood sample?" muttered Ben, holding the syringe on a pole like a spear before him.  Most of the enclosure was filled with a large mound made from chewed leaves, grass, and paper.  Even though there shouldn't have been many placesa five-foot-tall, man-eating insect could hide, Ben stirred some loose grass with the syringe - then stiffened as he heard chittering coming from behind him...
