027 Bitter Hatred

Subplot: Bitter Hatred

Subplot:
Bitter Hatred

Choose one victim archetype when you play this card; the choice cannot be changed.  For every victim of this archetype that is slain by a monster you control, you receive 25 extra victory points.

"The city detectives, in their persistence, seemed to have found our lair," announced the dire werewolf.  Towering a foot over the others in his pack, Jacob was dominant and respected by his kin.  "Tonight, three of our pack are dead, including our mate."
Jacob smiled and showed his yellow fangs.  "We're going to make the detectives come to us," he said vengefully, "like lambs to the slaughter."

It’s ironic, in an “obviously ironic” kind of way, that the card I bitterly hate, for ruining subplots, is: Bitter Hatred

This one card offers up a horridly overpowered chance to reap gross amounts of victory points and further tip the balance of movement and manoeuvrability in the favour of the Aliens and their like.

When you play bitter hatred in a 2 player game with a hand full of the same kind of victims, you have just set the table for a great feast of victory points for yourself, that no other subplot can offer.

Quite why 6 Pizza Guys have a blood feud with a cadre of vampires is a confusing and arcane secret that is only known to two cardinals in the upper echelons of the Vatican and Domino’s employees…. But when you play Bitter Hatred: It’s on like Donkey Kong baby! Those pizza guys better run like Benny Hill, chasing tail, on speed; because, otherwise, you’re handing your opponent a family-mega-bucket of free victory points.

Compare and contrast Bitter Hatred with other subplot cards like: Bring Them to the Master or Nobody Gets Out Alive:
Bring Them to the Master basically involves you trying, fruitlessly, to keep any victims in a starting area for 25 points a head. Compared to Bitter Hatred: Giving you 25 points + slaying points for a one off kill, no upkeep required gives Bitter Hatred a sickening advantage, to the point of rendering Bring Them to the Master useless.
Nobody Gets Out Alive only fares marginally better in comparison with Bitter Hatred.
Nobody Gets Out Alive will award you 50 points if all victims are slain… Compared to Bitter Hatred which will award you 80 points for 2 slain victims of choice, in a 300 point game.
Bitter Hatred is grossly overpowered and is made more-so when you build a team of “cleaners”, with high manoeuvrability, to sweep the map for you chosen quarry.

9/10 - If you're considering using a Base Set Subplot, this would be the one to play if you aren't playing Guardians. As long as you win the game, your potentially adding 25 points to the points you get when you slay a victim of that archetype. You can even play around the card and focus on victim slaying instead of brute force.
If you're going to use one of the Base Set's Subplots, this is the one to choose.
