HorrorClix Chess
A HorrorClix Variant by mpittman
You can either play on an 8x8 chess board, or an 8x8 section of a Horrorclix map if your chess board is too small, just ignore all terrain.
Special HrC Chess Rules:
1) All regular chess rules apply.(Your opponent’s King must be put in checkmate in order to win.)*
2) Since no one is white or black, roll to decide who goes first.
3) Only 1 move per turn, no matter what point limit is decided.
4) No frenzying, victims/minions, or plot twists.
5) When attempting to defeat one of your opponent’s pieces, instead of just landing on their space and killing them, you must roll the dice and compare attack value + dice roll to defense just like attacking in Horrorclix. If the attack succeeds, the monster is dealt damage accordingly and the monster that attacked it remains adjacent to that piece if that piece is not KOed(if the piece is KOed place the attacker in the defeated piece‘s square), but if the attack fails, your piece must remain where it was at.
6) If a Pawn makes it to the opposite end of the board, you may return one of your defeated pieces back to the board in its place(Chess rule).
7) When attack from range, line of fire is formed by that piece’s movement pattern(ex. Bishops may only shoot from range on a direct diagonal, ex. the King may shoot in any direction) except that Pawns & Knights have no range.
8) Action tokens are placed as normal.
Special Horrorclix Piece Chess Rules:
Pawns: Figures Must all have the same trait/class(ex. If one is a zombie, they all must be zombies.). No uniques or LEs.
Rooks, Bishops, & Knights: Pairs of each different piece must have the same class/trait(ex. If one bishop is a zombie, the other must be a zombie as well). No uniques or LEs.
Queen: Unique & LEs are allowed.
King: Uniques and LEs are allowed.
*For those that do not know basic chess rules:
Pawns may only move forward 1 space at a time, but they must move diagonally & forward to attack other pieces.
Rooks only move horizontally, as many spaces as they want.
Bishops move diagonally only, as many spaces as you want.
Knights may jump over other pieces, and may move up 2 over 3 or up 3 over 2 or any combination of 2 & 3.
The Queen may move diagonally and horizontally.
The King may move only 1 space at a time in any direction.
