Just One Night
A Horrorclix Scenario by Greatfrito
Background-
Thirteen contestants have been gathered together from all walks of life with a simple goal in mind: spend one night in the old Jaspar House and earn a million dollars. They've piled together in this rustic old home, confident that everything will be okay. Now, though, the thirteenth contestant has disappeared with a cackle of laughter, and no one feels safe. Perhaps their lives were worth more than a million after all.
Objective-
Each player attempts to defeat the other while keeping his chosen victim alive long enough to win the prize.
Army Size-
Two-Player game; 100 point armies; 1 action per turn.
Time-
60 minutes
Map-
Haunted House (Starter Set)
Setup-
Place four Ticking Clock plot twists in a special "Overnight" pile before play begins. The plot twists should be in this order, face-down, from bottom to top: Broad Daylight, Just Before Dawn, Stroke of Midnight, Just After Sunset. No player may include any Ticking Clock plot twists in their crypt.
Each player secretly includes only a single copy of a chosen victim archetype and writes the name down on a scrap of paper. This victim is that player's Chosen Victim for the match, and represents the contestant that they want to have win.
After victims are placed on the map, each player places 1 open portal and 1 closed portal on the map.
Special Scenario Rules-
1. Just a Little While Longer: At the beginning of each player's turn, if a victim was not successfully slain during the previous player's turn reveal the next card in the "Overnight" pile. It immediately takes effect.
2. Finally, We're Safe: The game ends at the end of the turn in which the Broad Daylight plot twist is revealed from the "Overnight" pile. Reveal all of the remaining face-down victims. If a player's chosen victim is still alive, that player gets an extra 50 victory points.
3. Some Houses are Born Bad: Portals that are closed stay closed, even if there is no victim or monster on either side of the portal. Portals that are open stay open, even if there is a victim or monster on either side of the portal. During each player's suspense phase, the player to his left flips one closed portal to open, and one open portal to closed. He cannot choose to flip the same portal both open and closed in the same turn, and he cannot choose to close a portal with an enemy monster on either side of it. Portals cannot be destroyed.
4. They Don't Know Anything About Us: At the end of each player's suspense phase, turn all victims face-down. Victim tokens do not turn face-up when a monster is adjacent, only when moved or targetted by a slaying attempt.
