Background: A wellspring of eldritch power is soon to erupt in the
cemetery known as Haunted Hill. Rival monsters compete
to bask in its dark radiance, and join its power to
their own.
Objective: Each player strives to occupy the most spaces in the
scoring area at the end of the game.
Army Size: 300 pts, two to four players.
Time Limit: 30 minutes
Map: The Crumbling Mausoleum. The Stephens Manor and the Scrye map both make reasonable substitutes.
Setup:
Players provide an equal number of victims; each
player prepares a crypt of six plot twists. Subplots
that award victory points should not be included in
any crypt.
Tips & Tactics:
While there is value in choosing monsters with high
damage values, as they get the best distance when ‘throwing’ enemies, it’s also useful to have several
monsters who might throw enemies to one another in a
chain, as well as get in the way of enemies trying to
reach the scoring area.
Special Rules:
A Vicious Struggle:
When a monster you control succeeds at a close combat
attack, you may choose to deal no damage and use no
combat-dependant powers. If you so choose, move the
target monster a number of spaces equal to this
monster’s damage value in a straight line. The target
monster automatically breaks away and can move past
(but not through) any other monster. The monster
ignores hindering terrain, but if its movement is
stopped by a wall or blocking terrain, it takes 1
unpreventable damage.
The Time is Upon Us!
At the end of the time limit, the active player
finishes the turn, and then rolls a d6. Consult the Endgame table below:
Result – Endgame
1, 2 – The next player takes a complete turn.
3, 4 – Next two players take complete turns.
5, 6 – Next three players take complete turns.
Depending on the number of players involved, the
player who rolled the d6 may take another turn, and a
player may take more than one turn during the endgame.
The Power is Ours!
The scoring area is the group of four bloodspots at
the center of the map: F11, G11, F12, G12.
When the endgame is complete, whichever player
controls the most squares in the scoring area is the
winner. If there is a tie, the tied player with the
lowest value army wins. If this is still a tie, the
tied players count the points of their monsters in the
scoring area to determine victory.
Special Tournament Rules:
In a tournament, player pairing should proceed as
normal. Points are scored for the number of scoring
spaces occupied at the end of each match. Tournament
victory is determined by points, rather than by match
victories, making it all the more important to shut
out each opponent, or to salvage even a single point
during a match.
