The Calling

The Calling
A Horrorclix Scenario by ChaosIndustries

Background-
The monster or “Shadow Wars” as they’re commonly known, have reached a breaking point. Each side stands poised to bring a new member into their horde from beyond, but to do that, they must have souls. To this end they have found a suitable location to call forth their brethren, yet find another has chosen the same spot.
The “Called” is foreseen as a bringer of doom, so it’s survival is paramount. The powers that control the hordes have decreed that it must be brought back to them.
Nothing good will come of this….

Objective-
Sacrifice 3 tokens to summon the “Called”, then help it escape.

Army Size-
300 points with an additional model no greater than 125 points to be the “Called”. 3 actions. Each side brings 3 minion tokens and 3 non-combat victims.
Each side also brings the altar 3d object (the tall pyramid tombstone with the skull), which does not count toward their item limit.

Time-
60 minutes or until one of the Called leaves play (see below).

Map-
Any. First player chooses map, but second player picks altar local first (see below).

Setup-
During victim setup, the 2nd player chooses a 3x3 square area of map to be their summoning area. This can be in part or all of their start area, but must be clear of any terrain. Here they place the altar in the center with the four minions adjacent. The 1st player then does the same. The other four victims are set normally.

Special Scenario Rules-
This is what I’ve been waiting for… All monsters start blooded.

“Birds of a Feather” So long as a monster shares a type with one that is in a cabal, it is also treated as being in that cabal. If a model would be eligible for more than one cabal through this or another combination of traits, it qualifies for all of them.

Kicking & Screaming When a monster is given a move action, it may at the beginning or at any point during, attempt to grab one model or victim token. To do so, they must become adjacent to it, then roll an attack that beats the target’s armor. If the roll does not beat it, the monster must stop in that space as it spends the rest of the round vainly trying to catch them. If it does beat their armor, no damage is done, but when the monster stops moving, its owner may place the model/token in any square next to it. No roll is needed if the target is vulnerable.

The Altar This is the focus of each side’s summoning. The minions must stay adjacent to it, so powerful is the lure of finishing the spell that no effect can move them away from it. Once 3 creatures (monsters or tokens) have been slain adjacent to the altar, the “Called” for that side is placed in any open square around it.
It can take 3 damage, has a defense value of 17, & has all damage done to it reduced by 1. If destroyed, the summoning cannot be finished by the side owning it. There is no effect if the summoning has already happened. The altar is worth 50 points.

The Called While this creature from beyond is most likely a machine of death, its importance is to battles in the future. By exiting the map, in the opposite start area, the game ends & that side is declared the winner. If their side set up in more than one starting area, it can exit through any one opposite. If they only set up in one, it must exit through the one farthest opposite.
