Chapter 0
An IWF Storyline Scenario by Eryx_UK
:
Background-
Whether the dreams brought on the fever or the fever brought on the dreams Walter Gilman did not know. Behind everything crouched the brooding, festering horror of the ancient town, and of the moldy, unhallowed garret gable where he wrote and studied and wrestled with figures and formulae when he was not tossing on the meager iron bed.
His ears were growing sensitive to a preternatural and intolerable degree, and he had long ago stopped the cheap mantel clock whose ticking had come to seem like a thunder of artillery. At night the subtle stirring of the black city outside, the sinister scurrying of rats in the wormy partitions, and the creaking of hidden timbers in the centuried house, were enough to give him a sense of strident pandemonium.
The darkness always teemed with unexplained sound—and yet he sometimes shook with fear lest the noises he heard should subside and allow him to hear certain other fainter noises which he suspected were lurking behind them.

Kavik's Group-
Okay, we had 5 players participate, as expected. The 5 teams were:
Furies1
Furies2
WolfBrothers
BPRD
R'lyeh
The WolfBrothers and each of the Furies got Byes, so the day went like this:
F1 - W/B/L
F2 - W/L/B
WB - B/W/L
BP - L/W/W
RL - L/L/W
The BPRD won for total wins, but if a Bye counts as much as a victory, then both teams of Furies and the WolfBrothers tied the BPRD for top dog.
At the time, we were assuming a Bye awarded half the value of the army (200). With this assumption, the BPRD won on points as well. However, with 400 for a Bye, BOTH teams of Furies take top honors.
Once we were done a 6th player joined us, and as an unofficial follow-up we held one more game. We pushed 2 Castle maps together and put both Spirit teams inside the castle. On one side they faced the BPRD + a team of assorted Hellspawn and Guardians (the Guardians were not afforded the BPRD cabal power) bent on exterminating the ghosts, and on the other side the forces of Cthulhu were teamed with the werewolves to exact their revenge (i.e. 3 teams of two).
The teams were allowed to take advantage of shared Ticking Clocks, which the Spirits did (both players were full of TCs). Regretably our own clocks ticked on as well, causing us all to end the game before a single monster was killed. The only points accrued were for the victims. The Combined Spirits total was 17 victims, while the BPRD got 6 and the Beasts had only 4.
At one point during the first round a member of Team R'lyeh snagged a cop victim with the intent of mind slaving it. Instead, the player grabbed a token from his slain victims, and replaced the cop with a sherriff, who I'm sure was thrilled by his promotion.
As mentioned, both Furies players used Ticking Clocks, obviously aware that they rarely get used so they rarely get countered. Despite not playing each other, one Furies Squad still got blocked by a rogue Broad Daylight, dumbfounding the player who had left out conventional rerolls in favor of the TC gambit. |
